What’s Your Dunedin?

Contestants are challenged to upcycle clothing and textiles destined for landfill into a ready-to-wear outfit. The competition aims to encourage more conscious decisions when shopping, not only to turn the tide on fast fashion, but to showcase creativity and innovation in sustainable fashion.

PLEASE NOTE: This competition is a ready-to-wear fashion competition, not a wearable art competition.

For this category, the theme is Dunedin, and interpretation is entirely up to you.
Is it framed by heavy clouds and gothic architecture, with a dark fashion heart that uses the city’s moody vibe as a secret ingredient?
Is it beaches, “Dunedin on a Good Day,” surfing, dancing, and the energy of live music?
Is it nightlife – house beats pumping, loud conversations and laughter spilling into the streets?
Is it laid-back student life, with vintage tees, distressed denim, and retro crewnecks?
Or is it all of these things woven together?

Dunedin is who it wants to be.

Materials & Sourcing

This category requires you to source your own textiles, fabrics, and materials. We will not be providing a bag of clothes for you to use. All materials should be second-hand (points will be deducted for using brand-new fabrics). You are welcome to rework garments or materials you already own.

Key Dates & Info

• Registration opens: Monday 29 September 2025

• Registration closes: Saturday 31 January 2026

• Creative Check-in 1: Digital – email us progress + pics (week commencing 2 February 2026)

• Creative Check-in 2: In-person (week commencing 16 February 2026)

• Garments due in store: 2–6 March 2026 (judging follows shortly after)

• Designer write-up: Submit alongside garment delivery (see PDF for details)

• Fashion Show: Thursday 26 March 2026
