Runway Revival: Wear to Care Competition is making its dazzling return in 2026

Every contestant will also have the incredible opportunity to showcase their designs at the Presbyterian Support Otago Fashion Show on 26 March 2026, proudly supported by iD Fashion.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Contestants are challenged to upcycle clothing + textiles destined for landfill into a ready-to-wear outfit. The competition aims to encourage more conscious decisions when shopping, not only to turn the tide on fast fashion, but to raise funds for Presbyterian Support Otago

The competition itself offers three themes to push the boundaries of upcycling, focusing on designs that are not just stylish, but practical and replicable. The themes are:

1. What’s Ur Dunedin

2. Anything But Clothes

3. Lucky Dip

Our Purpose

This competition is about more than fashion, it’s about change. Together, we aim to:

  • Turn the tide on fast fashion by showing that style doesn’t have to cost the earth.
  • Encourage sustainable, conscious shopping and inspire smarter choices.
  • Foster creativity through reuse, proving beauty can be made from anything.
  • Support our wonderful charity organisation, Presbyterian Support Otago

Key Details

  • Who can enter: Open to both individuals and teams.
  • Ages 14+
  • Entry fee: $25 per entry (non-refundable), payable upon registration.
  • Competitors will showcase their garments at Presbyterian support otago’s Runway Revival Charity Fashion Show on 26 march 2026, supported by iD fashion
  • There is a set production timeline that all contestants must follow (see below for details)
  • Shop on Carroll will check in with you along the way to support your progress.

Submission Requirements

***All contestants must provide:

  1. A “before” photo of all fabric/items used to create the garment.
  2. A short 200-300 word blurb covering:The chosen categoryThe items usedKey highlights of the garment and your creative process

PRIZES/JUDGING CRITERIA

Judging Criteria

Entries will be assessed on the following:

  • Innovation: Creative and unexpected use of pre-loved materials.
  • Creativity: A strong design concept that clearly aligns with one of the three themes.
  • Circularity: Maximising the reuse of pre-loved materials provided by Shop on Carroll. **Points will be deducted for using new or non-secondhand materials.**
  • Execution: A high-quality finish that fits the body, allows movement, and has a life beyond the event.

Prizes

  • There will be a winner chosen from each category.
  • Further details on judging, prizes and the event tbc

Competitors will have the choice to either:

  • Keep their garment, or
  • Donate their garment to be sold at Shop on Carroll, with proceeds going directly to Presbyterian support otago.

ENTRY PROCESS

  • All participants must follow the official production timeline, with regular check-ins from the Shop on Carroll team to support your progress.
  • Models: Each contestant must provide their own model (this may be yourself, a friend, or a family member). Participants are responsible for organising hair and makeup for their model prior to arrival at the event.
  • Showcase Event: Final garments will debut at Presbyterian Support OTAGO’s Runway Revival Charity Fashion Show, proudly supported by id fashion
  • Additional Display: Selected garments may also be exhibited at Shop on Carroll following the show.
